Marvel has been providing themed variants for the new Star Wars line since the beginning. Early themes include the Skottie Young covers, blank covers, and even the long running action figure covers. For The Force Awakens, Marvel introduced a theme that I expect to see revisited with future movie adaptations, movie poster covers.
All six of the movie poster covers for The Force Awakens were initially released in a 1:15 ratio to the standard cover. The poster used for issue #1 is also the first official theatrical poster released for the movie in October 2015. Lucasfilm was releasing very little information about the new movie and one pre-release feign they were propagating was that John Boyega's character Finn was going to be this trilogy's Jedi. Finn does use Luke Skywalker's lightsaber in the movie like on the poster, but we all know that Rey is slated to carry on the Jedi tradition.
In early November 2015, five character posters were revealed with Finn, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Kylo Renn, and Rey. Notice the Finn poster continues the ruse of which character is the Jedi. A character poster is noticeably absent for Luke Skywalker whose role in the film was a closely guarded secret.
